Empowering Tomorrow’s Leaders: The Youth Empowerment Summit (YES) Camp

In a world where strong leadership and active civic engagement are more crucial than ever, the Youth Empowerment Summit (YES) Camp offers a beacon of hope and inspiration for aspiring young leaders. Set against the serene backdrop of YMCA Camp Cullen in Trinity, Texas, this transformative three-day event, taking place from Friday, August 9th to Sunday, August 11th, promises to be a catalyst for personal and community growth.

A Unique Opportunity for Young Leaders

The YES Camp is designed specifically for young adults aged 18 to 35 from the Greater Houston area. It provides a unique opportunity to develop essential leadership skills, foster deep connections, and inspire positive change within their communities. With an expected attendance of 60 to 80 campers and 20 staff members, the camp offers a diverse and vibrant environment for learning and growth.

Three Pillars of Empowerment

At the heart of the YES Camp are three core pillars:

  1. Community Building & Inspiring Change: The camp encourages participants to build strong, enduring connections with their peers. These relationships serve as a foundation for collaborative efforts to drive positive change in their communities. Through interactive sessions and group activities, campers will learn the importance of unity and collective action.

  2. Leadership Development: Workshops and talks at the YES Camp focus on honing critical leadership skills such as critical thinking and public speaking. Participants will engage in exercises that challenge them to think creatively and communicate effectively, enhancing their ability to lead and inspire others.

  3. Wellness Empowerment: Utilizing the GRACE model, the camp emphasizes the importance of wellness and self-awareness. Attendees will explore their personal strengths and weaknesses, learning how to harness their unique attributes to become more effective and empathetic leaders.

A Commitment to Community Engagement

The YES Camp isn’t just about individual development; it’s also about making a tangible impact on the broader community. Youth groups from Houston, including VSAs and Church/Buddhist groups, are encouraged to send 6 to 10 dedicated members to the summit. In return for their commitment, each participating group will receive a $1,000 stipend. This initiative not only supports the groups financially but also ensures active and sustained involvement in the camp’s activities and initiatives.

A Call to Action

The YES Camp represents more than just a weekend of workshops and discussions; it is a call to action for the next generation of leaders. By participating, young individuals commit to shaping their communities’ futures through leadership, collaboration, and civic engagement. The skills and connections forged during this transformative weekend will serve as a lasting foundation for positive change.

Aspiring leaders who wish to make a difference are invited to join this inspiring movement. The YES Camp is not just an event; it is the beginning of a journey toward creating a more engaged, empowered, and connected community.
